Attributed to Eli Terry, Jr. (1799‐1841), this clock, made in 1836, features a stenciled and painted splat and a reverse painted (verre églomisé) glass panel at the bottom with an unpainted space through which the pendulum is visible, hence the name, “Looking Glass Clock.” Eli Terry, Sr. (1772-1852) was an innovator of interchangable parts technology introducing mass production to the craft of clockmaking. Almost singlehandedly Terry turned clocks into an affordable item that most American households could own. Terry's son, Eli Terry, Jr., followed in his father’s footsteps becoming a well-regarded clockmaker in his own right. His clocks often feature a verre églomisé panel depicting a house or pastoral scene. In this way, Terry, Jr., brought a touch of elegance and luxury to an item that his father had made universally accessible.

This Victorian-style Half-Tester Bed (1846) attributed to Prudent Mallard has the earliest Texas provenance at the NCHM. Ruben and Sarah Reeves purchased the bed in New Orleans when they also emigrated from Kentucky to Palestine, TX - quite the wedding trip! Reeves later became Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court and was appointed Justice of the Court of New Mexico Territory.

American ca. 1830 Empire style walnut wardrobe with ogee front feet. The interior has been refitted with cedar, with two single paneled doors. Inside, a hanging locker to the right and five drawers and two shelves to the left.

This simple chamber pot is made of white porcelain. Until the Cochran family added plumbing to the property at the end of the 19th century, the people who lived in the house either went outside to the outhouse to use the toilet or employed a chamber pot similar to this one.

This is a brass warming pan. The lid is decorated with ap pierced circle with rays etched into the brass. The decorative motif was utilitarian as well, however - coal would be placed in the pan and the heat would exit through the holes to warm the bed prior to sleep.
