The back parlor was the more casual gathering space in the home, typically reserved for family. Today, we might think of it as similar to a den or family room. The doors would have remained closed unless the family was entertaining on a large scale. Note the french doors - a home like this normally would have had pocket doors, but because the house's walls are solid stone, there are no pockets!
