This settee originally was one of a five-piece suite (three pieces survive today) of wicker that, by family tradition, was the first furniture that Thomas and Bessie Cochran purchased after their marriage in 1881. The settee features intricate scrolling and rosette motifs. Though modern Americans might think immediately of outdoor entertaining when we hear “wicker,” this breathable furniture was popular indoors during the 19th and early 20th century, particularly in hot climates such as Texas.

American, ca.1905. This large oak roll top desk made by the Gunn Furniture Co. belonged to Judge Thomas B. Cochran. Judge Cochran used the desk in his law office on Congress Avenue in Austin until his death in 1913, after which the desk came home to the site and served as Mrs. Cochran's home office for four decades.

This Victor Victrola dates to 1920. Victrolas are internal horn phonographs made by the Victor Talking Machine Company during the late 19th century and early 20th century. Victrolas are unique among phonographs in that the doors on the front acted as a crude volume control. By the 1920s, sales in Victrolas declined as the home radio became more popular.
